Request for court assistance
This brochure makes it easier for people with disabilities to indentify the types of specific assistance they require to access our services when attending court. The brochure is available at all court houses.
Can you hear in the courtroom?
To assist people who have hearing impairments overcome the variations in court room acoustics the Department uses portable infra-red systems. These are similar to hearing loops but ensure that the information stays within the courtroom. To find out how staff can assist you by ordering the infra-red system select the link to our brochure entitled:
'So You Have To Go To Court' DVD and Resource kit
This 25-minute video and resource kit was developed for people with cognitive disabilities who are required to attend court. You can download it as podcast or watch it online, or support agencies in NSW can order the DVD kit for free by emailing Diversity Services.

Capacity Toolkit
The Capacity Toolkit is a guide to assessing a person's capacity to make legal, medical, financial and personal decisions. The Capacity Toolkit was created in response to requests from lawyers, medical professionals, health workers, carers and advocates who required more information about capacity, some general capacity principles and guidelines on assessing a person’s capacity to make decisions. Published 2008.

Capacity Discussion Paper
As part of Law Week 2006, the Department launched a discussion paper for consultation exploring issues regarding capacity and capacity assessment entitled "Are the rights of people whose capacity is in question being adequately promoted and protected?"

What We Do - brochure community languages
